The Chiefs finally made a long (and impatiently) awaited free agent signing in wide receiver Juju Smith-Shuster. The 1 year, 10.75 million dollar deal is exactly what I think the Chiefs front office wanted for him, as this represents a sort of "prove it or lose it" deal for Smith-Shuster. Many across Chiefs Kingdom are rejoicing the move as finally #VeachBlackMagic has come to work its way into free agency. The question is though however, HOW excited should Chiefs Kingdom be?
On one hand, you get your free agent, big name wide receiver who will take attention away from key players such as Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill (something Josh Gordon failed to do, we'll see about next year right Josh? Stay off the weed) On the other hand, you have basically an entire defense to rebuild. Justin Reid was a key signing to mitigate the safety help (and officially drive away Tyrann Mathieu I guess) and Frank Clark getting a restructured deal with, once again, another prove it or lose it type situation will hopefully help bolster the pass rush. There is much, much more to be done though, and I truly do not believe we should wait until the draft to find talent. As good as Veach is in the draft there is still too much available talent in free agency to pass up on. Zadarius Smith, Derek Barnett, MELVIN INGRAM, and Jadeveon Clowney could all be key, invaluable pieces to this defense. In terms of secondary, the likes of Stephon Gilmore, Patrick Peterson, and Chris Harris Jr. are all still on the board too. If I'm Brett Veach, I am salivating at the idea of bringing Melvin Ingram back, and then perhaps waiting till draft time to find a defensive back if he doesn't pull full blown black magic and sign one of those top DBs listed. We shall see what comes, if another goat has to be sacrificed, then so be it. I am not worried, and neither should you be. In Veach We Trust.
